Farmers Market Chef Wanted

General Responsibilities:

  • You will be looped-in to season planning meetings and have a say in menu(s) and market set up

  • Complete Chicago Summerfest Food Sanitation class (it’s only a couple hours and farm will pay for it)

  • Communicate about ordering supplies on a weekly basis

  • Chef is responsible for keeping prepared food setup/dishes clean and well-stocked

  • Ensure prepared food expenses are recorded/reported to bookkeeping

  • Help direct/train supportive prepared food market staff

At Market:

  • Make sure menu is accurately portrayed on signage and explained well by staff

  • Purchase any day of necessities like seasonal produce, etc for sandwich toppings or any daily specials as desired

  • Make sure station is ready for making sandwiches, etc. to order by opening of market

  • Run the market food preparation/ service and organize cleanup and tear down

Clean Up/ Prep:

  • Help clean-up and load up market setup into van

  • Record expenses as necessary

  • If any ordering/supplies requests/etc. for next day are needed, complete

  • Wash dishes back in kitchen and restock any supplies as necessary

Compensation:

  • Market Chef compensation starts at $16/hr plus all tips are pooled with staff preparing the food and selling it, which is a real team effort at market! Hourly pay and additional sales commission rates are agreed upon based on experience, commitment, etc.
